CA and AG in Urbana

The “Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry Conference”, organized by Alberto Corso, Sankar Dutta, Claudia Polini, and Hal Schenck, will be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Urbana, Illinois) during the period November 4 – 6, 2011.
This conference continues a well established tradition of Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry meetings in the Midwest. Young mathematicians are especially encouraged to attend. There is a limited amount of support provided by the National Science Foundation through the Special Algebra Meetings in the Midwest grant (NSF DMS-0753127). The deadline for being considered for financial support is October 1, 2011.

Route 81 2011

The 21st annual Route 81 Conference on Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Cornell University.
If you would like to give a talk, contact the organizers and also send a title and short abstract. We might need to limit the number of talks to ensure enough time for discussions.
Please let one of the organizers know if you plan to attend, and whether you will be in town friday night for dinner.
For more information, see the conference web site.

Kiev Summer School: Singularities

The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and CIMPA will sponsor a Summer School on the topic Singularities: algebra, geometry and applications in Kiev, Ukraine, August 8–19 2011.
The aim of the Summer School is to introduce younger researchers and graduate students to modern trends of the theory of singularities, including both algebraic and geometric aspects, and both classical approaches and the newest ones, related to derived categories, noncommutative geometry, representation theory, tropical geometry, etc. In particular, introductory courses in these areas will be given.
The lecture courses will include:

  • Isolated Gorenstein Singularities (R.-O.Buchweitz, University of Toronto)
  • Cohen-Macaulay modules over surface singularities (I.Burban, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitaet Bonn)
  • Derived categories and tilting with applications to singularities (I.Drozd, Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine)
  • Lie algebras and singularity theory (A.Elashvili, Mathematical Institute of Georgian Academy of Science)
  • Invariants and deformations of hypersurface singularities (G.-M.Greuel, Universitaet Kaiserslautern)
