KUMUNU jr.

The first annual KUMUNU jr will be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, April 21-22, 2012. Inspired by the success of the KUMUNU algebra conferences in the midwest, KUMUNU jr seeks to promote interaction of graduate students and post docs in the area of commutative algebra. This conference is a forum for students and post docs to share their ideas with others and to initiate collaboration. If you would like more information, please see the conference website or contact one of the organizers.

Syracuse: CA and Rep. Theory

There will be a weekend conference on “Interactions between Commutative Algebra and Representation Theory” in Syracuse, New York, 13–15 April 2012. This conference is partly in honor of Ragnar-Olaf Buchweitz’s upcoming 60th birthday. For more information see the web page for the conference.
The organizers expect to have some support (thanks to the NSF) for travel/lodging. Preference will be given to young mathematicians (recent PhDs and advanced graduate students). Please register at the web page.

Lawrence: AMS

The Spring Central Section Meeting of the AMS will be held at the University of Kansas, March 30 – April 1, 2012 (Friday – Sunday). This meeting will include at least three special sessions of interest to the commalg community:

update 29 Dec 2011: There is now a local website for the meeting at math.ku.edu/conferences/2012/AMS/. It contains a lot of useful information, for example links to web pages for the individual sessions and things like hotels and restaurants.

UAE: Commutative Algebra

A special session on Commutative Algebra and Modules will be organized for the coming Fourth International Conference on Mathematical Sciences (ICM-2012), March 11-14, 2012, at the United Arab Emirates University, Al-Ain, UAE (one hour away by car from Dubai).

For more information see the link http://icm.uaeu.ac.ae.

The conference is sponsored by the AMS. Organizers of this special session are A. Badawi (American University, Sharjah, UAE) and M. Fontana (Universitá “Roma Tre”).

Computer Algebra: Madrid

The XIII Spanish Conference on Computer Algebra and Applications will be held in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), Spain from June 13-15th, 2012. The topics will include:

  • Effective Methods in Algebra, Analysis, Geometry and Topology.
  • Algorithmic Complexity.
  • Scientific Computation by means of Symbolic-Numerical Methods.
  • Symbolic-Numeric Software Development.
  • Analysis, Specification, Design and Implementation of Symbolic Computation Systems.
  • Applications to Science and Technology.

For more information, see the conference web page.

CMS Toronto

There will be at least two sessions of interest to commutative algebraists at the Canadian Mathematical Society’s 2011 Winter Meeting in Toronto, Ontario. The meeting will take place on December 10-12, 2011 at Ryerson University and York University.

  • Tony Geramita and Gregory G. Smith are organizing a Session on Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra.
  • Ragnar-Olaf Buchweitz, Vladislav Dlab, and Shiping Liu will organize a Session on Representations of Algebras.

For more information, see the CMS web page for the meeting.
