Wayne State Algebra

We received the following from Dan Isaksen at Wayne State University:
The Department of Mathematics at Wayne State University invites applications for a possible tenure-track position, pending authorization, commencing in Fall 2010. Qualified candidates from any area of mathematics are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to applicants in the research areas of analysis and algebra. Applications should include a signed, detailed vita, description of current research interests, and four letters of recommendation, one of which should address teaching. Solid evidence of teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred to a statement of teaching philosophy.
There is also a possibility of a visiting position for the 2010-2011 academic year. A Ph.D. in mathematics or a related field and a strong interest in research and teaching are required for all positions.
Applications received by December 1, 2009 will be given priority. Upon final approval, the position will be posted at https://jobs.wayne.edu.

for Algebra and Geometry: /Macaulay 2/
This new electronic-only journal is devoted to software for research in algebra and geometry, accompanied by short articles that explain their use and purpose. The software is in the form of packages for use with the Macaulay2 system, though this may be broadened at a later time to include other systems as well. Tehran: AC and Applications

The CIMPA-UNESCO-IPM School on Commutative Algebra and Applications to Combinatorics and Algebraic Geometry will be held June 20-30, 2009, in the School of Mathematics of IPM, Tehran, Iran. The first week (20-23 June) will be a school with seven instructional courses. The second week (27-30 June) will be devoted to an international research conference.

2nd CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

MEGA is the acronym for Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry (and its equivalent in Italian, French, Spanish, German, Russian, etc.), a series of roughly biennial conferences on computational and application aspects of Algebraic Geometry and related topics with very high standards. Previous meetings were held in 1990 (Castiglioncello, Italy), 1992 (Nice, France), 1994 (Santander, Spain), 1996 (Eindhoven, Nederlands), 1998 (St. Malo, France), 2000 (Bath, United Kingdom), 2003 (Kaiserslautern, Germany), 2005 (Porto Conte, Italy) and 2007 (Strobl, Austria). Selected papers from the conference will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Symbolic Computation.
Proceedings containing a selection of the papers and invited talks presented at previous Mega conferences have been published by Birkhäuser in the series Progress in Mathematics (volumes no. 94, 109 and 143), by the Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra (volumes no. 117 and 118, 139 and 164) and by the Journal of Symbolic Computation (volumes no. 39 3-4 and 42 1-2). A Special Issue of the Journal of Symbolic Computation devoted to selected papers of MEGA’2007 will soon appear.
MEGA 2009 will be held at the University of Barcelona, Spain.
Submissions

Submissions should contain recent original research relevant to the topics of the conference. There are two possible modes of submission:

  • Full papers with complete proofs. In this case also an abstract of two to four pages is requested.
  • Extended abstracts of at least four pages containing full results, an outline of the proofs and all of the main ideas.

Submitted contributions to this conference must not have been accepted or be under review by another conference with a published proceedings or by a journal.
Acceptance of a submitted contribution means acceptance for oral presentation only. A Call for Papers for the Conference Proceedings will be announced during (and after) the conference.

CALL FOR SOFTWARE PRESENTATIONS

Submissions of Software Presentation must describe original material concerning software experiences and development, related to the main topics of the conference, as long as there is a strong empirical/experimental component to the software being presented.
Such contribution can take the form of a case/field study, controlled experiment, original applications of existing software libraries or development of new software and systems. Originality is measured in terms of new usage of existing libraries, new experiences and original experimental results, new philosophy that generates new software as a main product, etc…
Software Demos submission will take the form of an Extended Abstract where the proposal is described according to the above requirements. The abstract should detail how the software can be obtained or executed, also for the purpose of its evaluation.For submitting see below.
CALL FOR RESEARCH COMMUNICATIONS

Research Communications must contain describe unpublished, original material concerning research announcements, ongoing research, short communications of results not submitted to the conference due to time constraints and related to the main topics of the conference. Accepted research announcements will have the possibility of displaying a poster during the poster sessions, and selected ones will be included in the conference program for a short talk. Research Communications will take the form of an Extended Abstract which will evaluated by members of the Executive Committee.
