Topological and Geometric Combinatorics, Tehran

International School on
Topological and Geometric
Combinatorics
February 13-15, 2017
School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, College of Science, University of Tehran
Combinatorics is one of the fastest developing research areas of Mathematics. Much of this development is due to its connections and interactions with other areas of Mathematics, like Algebra, Geometry, Optimization and Topology. This school is devoted to the active area of interaction between Combinatorics with Geometry and Topology. More precisely, the following subjects will be covered in the school:
1. Applications of Topological Combinatorics
2. Modern Convex Geometry
3. Tropical Geometry
The goal of this event is to help the graduate students and young researchers to become familiar with the high standard topics and with the researches of international mathematicians. On the other hand, the invited speakers of the school will recognize the ability of our students and their mathematical knowledge. This will help both sides to make the best decision for starting any exchange collaboration.
Invited Speakers:

  • Afshin Goodarzi (Freie Universität Berlin)
  • Christian Haase (Freie Universität Berlin) (Not Confirmed)
  • Benjamin Matschke (Université de Bordeaux)
  • Amin Nematbakhsh (IPM)
  • Johannes Rau (University of Tübingen)
  • Volkmar Welker (Philipps-Universität Marburg)

Organizers:

  • Peyman Nasehpour (University of Tehran)
  • Seyed Amin Seyed Fakhari (University of Tehran)
  • Siamak Yassemi (University of Tehran)

Atlanta JMM

The 2017 Joint Math Meetings will be held January 4-7 (Wed-Sat) in Atlanta, GA (http://jointmathematicsmeetings.org/jmm). Here are some special sessions that might be of interests.

Commutative Algebra: Research for Undergraduate and Early Graduate Students

This session meets Friday 1/6 1:00-5:50 and will include a few 45-minute lectures from senior researchers with experience working with young commutative algebraists as well as 20-minute talks from undergraduates and early graduate students. The focus of this session is serious but student-friendly commutative algebra research, and should be accessible to anyone having had a first course in ring theory. The aim is to promote future commutative algebra research with undergraduates and early graduate students by highlighting new results and interesting, tractable open problems.

Organizers: Nick Baeth and Courtney Gibbons.

RTG Workshop on the Homological Conjectures in Commutative Algebra

The University of Illinois at Chicago will host an RTG Workshop on the Homological Conjectures in Commutative Algebra from November 18th through the 20th of 2016. The minicourses will be geared toward graduate students, postdocs, and young researchers; titles are speakers are listed below:

  • Introduction – Chris Skalit (UIC)
  • Minicourse 1 – Mel Hochster (Michigan): An overview of the homological conjectures, recent progress on the direct summand conjecture, big Cohen-Macaulay modules and algebras, and lim Cohen-Macaulay sequences
  • Minicourse 2 – Mark Walker (Nebraska): Tackling homological conjectures using algebraic K-theory
  • Minicourse 3 – Linquan Ma (Utah): The vanishing conjecture for maps of Tor, splinters, and derived splinters

Workshop and registration information may be found at (http://kftucker.people.uic.edu/homconj/). Those seeking funding should apply by October 10th.

Kathmandu 2016

Second International Workshop and Conference in Commutative Algebra (SIWCCA)

Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal
October 17 – 28, 2016
The workshop and conference will feature both preparatory talks and research/expository talks. The First International Workshop and Conference, in April 2015, was interrupted on its last day by the devastating earthquake, but nonetheless gave Nepali students and young faculty a taste of “what’s out there” in our field.
