AMS Sectional, Orlando

There will be a Special Session on Commutative Algebra: Interactions with Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Topology at the Southeastern Sectional Meeting University of Central Florida, Orlando, Orlando, FL September 23-24, 2017. CA+, Minnesota

CA+ is a mini-conference hosted jointly by Minnesota and Wisconsin. We highlight work in commutative algebra and related fields like algebraic geometry, number theory, combinatorics, and more. We have colloquium-style talks targeted at a broad audience of people interested in algebra.

This year’s meeting is September 22-23 at University of Minnesota. We will have 6 talks, starting on the afternoon of Friday, Sept 22 and going through Saturday, Sept 23. We also have targeted small group conversations related to research and/or professional development. This year’s speakers are Lauren Williams (Berkeley), Emily Witt (Kansas), Jay Yang (Wisconsin), Alexander Yong (UIUC), and two more to be confirmed.

AMS Sectional, Denton TX

There will be a Special Session on Commutative Algebra at the Fall Central Sectional Meeting of the AMS, September 9-10, 2017. The organizers of the session are Jonathan Montano (U. Kansas) and Alessio Sammartano (Purdue U.).
update 15 May: There will also be a Special Session on “Homological Methods in Commutative Algebra” at the Denton meeting, organized by Peder Thompson (Texas Tech) and Ashley Wheeler (U. Arkansas).

25th National School on Algebra, Bucharest

The Research Institute of the University of Bucharest, the Institute of Mathematics “Simion Stoilow” of the Romanian Academy, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Bucharest, and The Romanian Mathematical Society will organize the 25th National School on Algebra, September 4 – September 8, 2017, Bucharest, Romania.
There will be three main courses on syzygies, generic initial ideals, repectively modular invariant theory, each consisting of three one-hour lectures and one tutorial delivered by Marian Aprodu (IMAR & University of Bucharest, Romania), Enrico Sbarra (Universita degli Studi di Pisa, Italy) and Mufit Sezer (Bilkent University, Turkey). Local Cohomology, Minnesota

The University of Minnesota will host a conference focusing on recent advances in commutative algebra centered around topics influenced by the contributions of Gennady Lyubeznik: local cohomology, rings of prime characteristic, D-modules, and the homological conjectures. The conference will be held August 7-11, 2017.

RSCAAG: Algebra, Combinatorics and Geometry of Monomials

The Institute for Advanced Studies in Basic Sciences (IASBS) and the Institute for research in fundamental sciences (IPM) are organizing the First Research School on Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry (RSCAAG) on the topic “Algebra, Combinatorics and Geometry of Monomials” from 5 to 17 August 2017 in Zanjan, Iran.
The aim of the school is to introduce research topics in the main streams of Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra to young researchers and PhD students, and encourage them to collaborate in teams leaded by well-known mathematicians. To reach this aim, an educational-research school will be organized for a period of 2 weeks in IASBS. After some intensive courses on special topics, participants will be divided into groups and start work and research on some proposed related problems. These collaborations will be continued after the schools.
The topic of monomial ideals and algebras, as a subject of Commutative Algebra, Homological Algebra, Combinatorics and Geometry will be investigated from several points of view. The common point will be reaching to understand the behavior of monomials when the corresponding ideal or algebra has special properties.

"Applied Macaulay2" tutorial, Georgia Tech

There will be a Macaulay2 event preceding the SIAM Applied Algebraic Geometry meeting. The organizers plan three full days of M2 tutorials on July 27-29 (Thu-Sat), which will take place at Georgia Tech. These tutorials are intended to appeal to participants with any level of prior M2 experience. The topics will range from the basic functionality of M2 to modeling problems in the M2 language to more specialized tutorials on algebraic statistics and numerical algebraic geometry. We will also reserve ample time for practice and Q&A sessions.
Registration is free, but prospective participants should fill out this form.
The deadline to apply for financial support (for local expenses) is May 15, 2017. Priority will be given to students and early career participants.
