Lorenzo Robbiano points out that Springer is discounting some prices on some books. For example, Kreuzer–Robbiano’s “Computational Commutative Algebra 1 and 2” are discounted on sale at €39.54 instead of the usual €64.15/€58.50. The discounts don’t appear to be available in the US, but Lorenzo tells us they are valid in some areas until July 31 2010.

Oberwolfach Seminar: Finite Groups, Local Cohomology
The Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach will be holding an Oberwolfach Seminar on Representations of Finite Groups: Local Cohomology and Support, May 23rd – May 29th, 2010. They have issued a call for applications to participate, including a short summary of previous work and interest, by April 1st, 2010. Please see the web page for the Seminar for more information.
Rome Commutative Ring Theory Days
The Departments of Mathematics of Università degli Studi “Roma Tre” and Università degli Studi “Sapienza” will sponsor “Commutative Ring Theory Days”, May 20-21 2010 in Rome, Italy. There will be an additional pre-session on the afternoon of May 19.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers in the area of commutative ring theory, with a certain emphasis on young people. The main themes of the conference are:
- factorization and divisibility properties, decomposition of ideals, class groups;
- multiplicative ideal and module systems, star and semistar operations;
- intersections of valuation domains (Prüfer domains and their generalizations);
- analytically irreducible one-dimensional rings and their value semigroups
- integer-valued polynomials.
For more information, including registration information and deadlines, please see the web page for the conference.
MAGIC '10
This year’s Midwest Algebra, Geometry and their Interactions Conference (MAGIC’10) will be held at the University of Notre Dame, April 23-25, 2010. The organizers are:
- Nero Budur (University of Notre Dame)
- Alberto Corso (University of Kentucky)
- Juan Migliore (University of Notre Dame)
- Claudia Polini (University of Notre Dame)
The conference continues a well established tradition of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry meetings in the Midwest, among which we single out MAGC97 at the University of Notre Dame in 1997, the first Bluegrass Algebra Conference at the University of Kentucky in 2003, the Lipman-Fest at Purdue University in 2004, MAGIC’05 at the University of Notre Dame in 2005, the Purdue-UIC Workshop at Purdue University in 2006, the Hartshorne’s 70th birthday conference at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2008, the second Bluegrass Algebra Conference at the University of Kentucky in 2009, and the Libgober’s 60th birthday conference at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009.
Young Mathematicians are especially encouraged to attend. There is a limited amount of funding provided by the following sources:
- Department of Matematics (Notre Dame)
- College of Science (Notre Dame)
- Graduate School (Notre Dame)
- Special Algebra Meetings in the Midwest grant (NSF DMS-0753127).
A registration page and further information will be shortly available at the (soon to be released) meeting website.
ICMS ’10, Sharjah
The First International Conference on Mathematics and Statistics, AUS-ICMS’10, will be held March 18-21, 2010.
