KUMUNU jr.
The first annual KUMUNU jr will be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, April 21-22, 2012. Inspired by the success of the KUMUNU algebra conferences in the midwest, KUMUNU jr seeks to promote interaction of graduate students and post docs in the area of commutative algebra. This conference is a forum for students and post docs to share their ideas with others and to initiate collaboration. If you would like more information, please see the conference website or contact one of the organizers.

Syracuse: CA and Rep. Theory
There will be a weekend conference on “Interactions between Commutative Algebra and Representation Theory” in Syracuse, New York, 13–15 April 2012. This conference is partly in honor of Ragnar-Olaf Buchweitz’s upcoming 60th birthday. For more information see the web page for the conference.
The organizers expect to have some support (thanks to the NSF) for travel/lodging. Preference will be given to young mathematicians (recent PhDs and advanced graduate students). Please register at the web page.
Simons Fellows announced
The Simons Foundation has announced the first round of Simons Fellows in Mathematics (previously on commalg.org), and it includes a number of our colleagues in commutative algebra and closely related fields. Congratulations to Robert Guralnick, Srikanth Iyengar, Irena Peeva, and Bernd Ulrich on this honor! (Hope we didn’t accidentally miss anyone!)
Postdocs at Sheffield
From Moty Katzman:
The School of Mathematics at the University of Sheffield is hiring a post-doctoral research assistant to work on an EPSRC funded project entitled “Common threads in the theories of local cohomology, D-modules and tight closure, and their interactions.”
The position will last for three years from September 1st, 2012 to June 30th, 2015. The successful applicant will have no teaching duties and will devote their time to study problems originating from prime characteristic methods, local cohomology modules and D-modules. The salary is approximately GBP 28,251 (USD 45,200) with an additional GBP 5,000 for travel expenses for the three year period. Continue reading “Postdocs at Sheffield”

Postdocs in CA at Dalhousie and INdAM
From Sara Faridi:
These postdoctoral positions were not advertised on the AMS website, so I am posting a link here for anyone who is interested. The application procedures for the two types of postdocs available are somewhat different than normal, so please read the instructions carefully.

From Aldo Conca:
At the following web page
http://cofund.altamatematica.it/
you find the second call for the INdAM post-doc fellowships in mathematics. These are 2-years post-doc grants payed according to the EU standards.
The dead-line is december 20. Some grants are reserved to non-italians. There will be a third call in the spring 2012.
CA and AG in Urbana
The “Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry Conference”, organized by Alberto Corso, Sankar Dutta, Claudia Polini, and Hal Schenck, will be held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Urbana, Illinois) during the period November 4 – 6, 2011.
This conference continues a well established tradition of Commutative Algebra and Algebraic Geometry meetings in the Midwest. Young mathematicians are especially encouraged to attend. There is a limited amount of support provided by the National Science Foundation through the Special Algebra Meetings in the Midwest grant (NSF DMS-0753127). The deadline for being considered for financial support is October 1, 2011.
