Suzhou, China

International Conference on Algebra—A Satellite Conference of ICM2002 will be held from Aug.29 to Sep.2, 2002, just after ICM2002 Beijing, at Suzhou University in the historic and cultural city Suzhou in south China.
The conference is aimed at the following fields: homological algebra and algebraic k-theory, finite groups and modular representation theory of groups, algebraic combinatorics and coding theory, matrix theory, representation theory of algebras, algebraic groups and quantum groups, semigroup theory, commutative algebra and algebraic geometry, algebraic number theory and arithmetical algebraic geometry, differential operator rings and general ring theory, Lie groups and Lie algebras.
More information, including the organizing committee, main speakers, schedule, accomodation, registration, transportation, and a very nice poster, is available at the conference website

MSRI Year in C.A.

The Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) is holding a year-long program in Commutative Algebra from August 19, 2002 to May 16, 2003. The Program is organized by Luchezar Avramov, Mark Green, Craig Huneke, Karen E. Smith and Bernd Sturmfels. It will focus on the following areas:
Tight closure and characteristic p methods
Toric algebra and geometry
Homological algebra
Representation theory
Singularities and intersection theory
Combinatorics and Grobner bases
Invited speakers include David Benson (University of Georgia), David Eisenbud (MSRI), Mark Haiman (UC Berkeley), Melvin Hochster (University of Michigan), Rob Lazarsfeld (University of Michigan), and Bernard Teissier.
There will also be several research workshops during the year. See separate entries for these as information becomes available.
See the MSRI site for the program for more information.
