DESCRIPTION:Dear Colleagues\,\nWe are organizing a Macaulay2 workshop at Cleveland State University in Cleveland\, OH from Monday\, May 11\, 2020 through Friday\, May 15\, 2020 (with Sunday\, May 10 and Saturday\, May 16 serving as travel dates).\nThe purpose of the workshop is to bring Macaulay2 developers together with those who would like to share or develop their skills at writing packages for Macaulay2 and those interested in developing the corresponding mathematical algorithms. We welcome participants with a broad range of experience with Macaulay2\, from novices to the very experienced. Participants will form groups and work together on writing code and packages for Macaulay2. In addition to the group work\, we plan to provide tutorials on Macaulay2 and package development\, as well as opportunities for mathematical discussions and professional development.\nFor more information\, please visit the workshop website at https://math.galetto.org/m2csu2020\, which also includes information about lodging and possible projects.\nAttendance at this workshop is by invitation\, based on a brief application available via the link above. SUMMARY:Purity\, Approximation Theory and Spectra\, Cetraro\, Italy
DESCRIPTION:There will be a workshop on “Purity\, Approximation Theory and Spectra” at Grand Hotel San Michele in Cetraro\, Italy\, 18-22 May 2020.\nPurity and approximation theory influence a wide range of areas in mathematics including model theory of modules\, silting and tilting theory\, cotorsion pairs and abelian model structures and many more. Moreover\, related classification problems in abelian and triangulated categories are strongly connected with spaces such as Ziegler spectra and prime spectra. We aim to bring together experts and young researchers with an interest in these topics to share their different viewpoints and approaches.\nThe workshop will include five mini lecture series introducing a range of fundamental topics\, and contributed talks. There will also be opportunities for PhD students to present short talks introducing their research topics. SUMMARY:Tropical Geometry\, Valladolid (Spain)
DESCRIPTION:International school on Tropical Geometry\nhttp://tropicalschool2020.uva.es/\nThis school is organized by the IMUVA-Mathematics Research Institute of the University of Valladolid (Spain) in May\, 25th-29th\, 2020. The main objective of is to offer to future and young researchers of distinct branches of mathematics a series of courses at doctorate level on a new field connected to many areas. There will be an introductory course with minimal prerequisites and two courses on recent applications in different areas. The three courses are aimed to be as self-contained as possible in order to make the school attractive to a wide and diverse audience.\nThe target audience is master’s students\, PhD students and postdocs from all areas of mathematics. Senior researchers interested in learning on this new topic are also welcome. The school is based on three courses organized in an exercise-based format (1 hour of lecture + 40 minutes of exercises for each session).
